Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to prepare undergraduates for critical thinking and employment flexibility. The department's philosophy emphasizes faculty-student contact outside the classroom and individual attention for our majors. Over the past four years, every graduate of our programs has obtained employment in his or her specialty or continued on to graduate school.

Faculty

Our faculty's expertise encompasses a broad range spanning French language and linguistics, French and Francophone literature and culture (Belgium, West Africa, Quebec, Haiti); Latin American literature; Hispanic women's writing; Spanish and Latin American culture; Hispanic linguistics; and the use of technology in the humanities.

Activities & events

In addition, we offer students opportunities to practice the target languages outside of the classroom, during activities such as conversation tables, film nights, immersion days, poetry and drama readings, and guest speaker events.

Many good reasons to study a foreign language
